Dr. Christelle Liversage

Christelle Liversage attained a B.A. degree in 1979 from the University of Pretoria, majoring in Afrikaans, English and Psychology. After which she completed a Higher Education Diploma.  During this time she was Primaria of the residence Huis Erika and received a medal of distinction for exceptional service to the Pretoria University student community.

She was employed at Vuselela F.E.T College, Potchefstroom Campus from 1994 -2001 as a lecturer in business studies,  head of skills development from 2001-2004 and rector of the campus from 2004-2007. Lecturing experience included subjects such as marketing research N6. As head of skills development, she conducted local and international research on available resources to address the needs of staff in acquiring new skills to meet the growing demands of effective educational service delivery.

During this time she completed an international leadership and management post graduate diploma in January 2007, where her final dissertation comprised of a research project exploring the perceptions of staff at campus level towards management and the impact thereof on productivity. She also initiated the establishment of the Foundation for Economic and Business Development centre in Potchefstroom and was part of a team who conducted research on the value of experiential training in outcomes based education, specifically in rural areas.

In 2008-2009 she was employed by the Institute for Leadership and Management as operations manager for Africa, where her duties entailed the investigation of possible work-based accredited NVQ (UK standards) post graduate qualifications, and endorsed bespoke workplace programmes for corporate and mining companies throughout Africa.

From 2009 - 2013 she was employed as Regional Learning and Development Officer for Southern and Eastern Africa, and promoted to  Regional Learning and Development Manager  for Southern and Eastern Africa by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office, stationed at the British High Commission in Pretoria. Duties entailed delivery of training to high commissions and embassy staff on all levels throughout Africa. Training courses included : Communication and Assertiveness, Personal Effectiveness, Customer Focus, From Management to Leadership, Management Principles, Performance Management for Job Holders, Performance Management for Line Managers, Presentation Skills, Creativity and Innovation,The Art of Being Brilliant, Effective Writing Skills, Coaching skills, Communication and influencing, Understanding Change, Working across cultures, Team Dynamics,Specialist Interviewing Skills for Line Managers.

Training needs analysis research was conducted at the embassies/high commissions to determine learning needs of staff. After results were discussed with the ambassador/high commissioner, strategies were compiled for service delivery.   A large focus was placed on performance management, where goal setting and objectives, play a pivotal part.

Christelle completed her masters degree in Positive Psychology (MAPP) (Cum Laude) in 2015 and attained the Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences with Positive Psychology (All option 1’s) in 2021. She is currently the Programme Chair for the Master of Arts in Positive Psychology and a Senior Lecturer at the North West University, Africa Unit for Transdisciplinary Health Sciences.
